Kristen went to three Easter Egg Hunts this year. Her first egg hunt was Saturday the 4th. Several downtown Overland Park shops handed out chocolate eggs to toddlers and preschoolers who followed a "treasure map." Momma and Kristen had fun walking around the square, eating chocolate and saying hello to other little kids. Kristen's favorite part of the hunt was receiving colored strips of construction paper and ribbon ("grass") to fill her basket. Unfortunately, it was a very windy day, and most of the grass flew away. But Kristen was determined, and she chased down each piece of paper and ribbon EVERY time it flew out. We probably spent the majority of our time hunting for our grass, not eggs. Other kids were not as persistent in their grass hunting, so Kristen benefited and collected more than enough grass to fill her bucket.
Our second Easter Egg Hunt was the following Sunday. Our church small group met at one of our member's homes and hid plastic eggs filled with small toys, jelly beans, and more chocolate, in their living room. Kristen enjoyed looking for her eggs labeled with her name. Another little girl in the group is named Kylee, so a couple of times, Kristen mistakenly picked up the wrong egg. But overall, she did great and loved it. The jelly beans were a hit!!!
Kristen was a sweet sister and let Audrey play with a few of the plastic eggs. Audrey was reminded by Kristen several times that she could only PLAY with the eggs, not eat the candy inside them.
Kristen's third Easter Egg Hunt was on the Saturday before Easter. Daddy took Kristen to the church's egg hunt. There, she was able to play with some of her sunday school friends, find more plastic eggs, and decorate a cookie. She also received an Elmo kite!!!
On Easter Sunday, Momma and Kristen boiled half a dozen eggs and colored them.
Audrey sat on the table in her bumbo seat and watched Kristen and Momma dye the eggs. Audrey had fun playing with Kristen's basket, plastic eggs and grass. She dumped the basket over several times, threw the eggs and tried to eat the grass.
Waiting as the eggs sat in the color dye was a little hard for a two-and-a-half year old, but Kristen managed.
Unfortunately, Audrey was able to reach one of the cups full of color dye and made quite a mess. After the mess was cleaned up and the eggs had dried, Kristen enjoyed cracking open the eggs and eating them.
