A great day at the lake!

Today we went fishing at one of our favorite lakes. The weather was beautiful, the worms were fat, the bucket hats were in place, and we were excited about a fun family outing!  As it turned out, the fish were HUNGRY!

SPRING FISHING!

After dabbling briefly in fishing last August, we have taken it back up this spring and the girls are loving it. We have been out four times, to a nice little park with a couple of small docks that work well for the girls. Kristen enjoys doing it herself and she ALMOST does everything start to finish independently. I sometimes help bait the hook (although she is getting pretty decent at it) and I typically unhook the fish (although she got a little braver last time out and removed one herself).

Audrey enjoys having her own little kid-sized pole. I still help her with most of the process but she is very eager to do it, especially casting and reeling. On our last outing, she and I teamed up on SEVEN fish, like this one...

These pretty little sunfish are the perfect size for my beginning fishergirls. Last time out, Audrey decided she wanted to hold the fish, even before it was unhooked. So I showed her how to grab it so that she pushed the fins down without getting poked. She caught on pretty quickly and enjoyed showing off her fish.

Last time out, there was a guy next to us catching catfish and she decided that she didn't want to tackle those yet, even if we did manage to catch one:)

On our last trip, after Kristen hooked one, I grabbed my phone to video her reeling it it. I had been helping Audrey and I just stepped away and left her to it. A brief few seconds later, she started to reel one in, too! The first one she had hooked all by herself! Very cool.

If you get a chance to ask Kristen about her fishing adventures, and whether she has her own tacklebox, she would probably enjoy telling you. And Audrey enjoys talking about her own tacklebag and how much she is learning to do by herself:)

How the kingdom of God is not like flying

I flew back home from London on a nice big Boeing 767. My seat was in the third row of the "Economy" section. About halfway through the flight I got up and used the "lavatory" in front of my section. Upon exiting, the flight attendant informed me, "Next time, the bathroom for Economy is in the back." I'm glad the kingdom of God is not like that. I'm glad that the sacrifice of His one and only son as atonement for people's sins was for ALL people. I'm glad that He does not want ANYONE to perish. And that in His kingdom, there is no male or female, slave or free, Greek or Jew, wealthy or poor, for we are all one in Christ Jesus!
